Let's start with what's new, well I started my second year here. Can you believe I've already been here a year? I feel like I've done so much and yet nothing at all. So what did I do this past year? Well I did a ton of classes, school here is very different from school at home so I take way more classes than I used to. I've made so many new friends from around the world, and I even showed some around Tokyo. I've slowly been improving my Japanese, and when I say slowly I mean very slowly. I've participated in an English play day with little Japanese children and I've done so many other things. A few will be having their own blog post but I'll do a mini overview here.
September:
I participated in my first Harajuku fashion walk, I went to the zoo, participated in a welcome party and started my second semester. Oh, and I must not forget that I went to Vogue Fahion's night out in Harajuku. It was pretty cool, the perks of living in a major city means I can go to things like this.
This was the end of the night when most people had already gone home. As you can see, there are still lot's of people. |
October was Halloween, I went to my school's Halloween party and made a few new friends. I did not go out to Shibuya on Halloween, I was way to scared to brave those crowds. I figure I have a few more years here so I'll get around to it one of these days.
November:
I went to the Meiji University festival, it was funny because many of the students wanted to practice their English and so would come up to me and my friend and say some really confusing things. After we went shopping for furisode's. And of course some Christmas decorations started showing up. I also went to a festival at Meiji-jingumae shrine. I went on my second trip to Kawagoe and went to a rabbit cafe with friends
December:
In December I was invited to participate in an English play day. Essentially it was around 6-8 Japanese kids and 2 foreign students for each group. We sang, danced and played games to help them practice their English. It was an amazing amount of fun but exhausting, it was so hard saying goodbye both times. My fellow group leader was a guy named Fred from Sweden, his Japanese is super good but everyone had to pretend we couldn't speak it. Super easy for me since I can't! I've actually been invited back for the next one!
I also participated in my first National Lolita Day, I'm writing a blog post about it that should be up soonish... I had my schools Christmas party and my friend Fernando arrived from Brazil! I went to Dolpa, which is something I've always wanted to do. Of course I almost fainted from the prices, not something a poor student could afford!
Of course I also spent my first Christmas alone! I had a Christmas eve party Japanese style with one of my house mates and her friends and then had a Christmas day party with my Brazilian friend. In Japan everyone here eats fried chicken and Christmas cake, it was different but not bad.
I went to Comiket and also went lucky pack shopping. The shopping will have a different post but Comiket was INSANE! I only got to see one room very well, of course I managed to end up in the room with tons of hentai, I have never seen so many illustrations of naked girls on posters in my life. It was awkward but me and my friends just laughed it off, another friend later told me about all the other rooms that we didn't know about. I will go back, but find the other rooms next time.
January:
I spent New Year's eve with my classmate from Kazakhstan and her friend who was visiting her. I went for the first shrine visit of the year and more lucky pack shopping. The super exciting thing I did was go to Yokohama for the first time. I was always amazed that with the amount of time I've spent in Japan I had never been to Yokohama before.
I also participated in the coming of age day or Seijin No Hi. It's a day in January for everyone who turned 20 between certain dates to celebrate becoming an adult. The girls wear Furisode which are Kimono with long sleeves worn by young unmarried women for special occasions. My parents bought me mine as a Christmas present.
My friend Michelle from Switzerland visited and the two of us went to an owl cafe. It's funny that I seem to be seeing a lot of the friends that I made when I went to a language school here in 2013. I went to a Japanese food festival at Tokyo Dome, I went to the vampire cafe with a friend and we had the only snow of the year.
February:
I said goodbye to Fernando, I went to a little indie lolita market, had a kawaii tokyo boys and girls breakfast meetup. On valentines day I had an acting workshop where we were super serious actors. I later went to Shinjuku Gyoen for a friends birthday
March:
I had to say goodbye to some amazing friends, it was super sad. But now I have an excuse to go visit them in Australia! I went to go visit my old host family in Gunma where I learned that apparently you can get worse at a language you are actively studying. I also went to Yokohama again, this time with a new friend from the UK. I saw some new things that I hadn't had a chance to see the first time.
April:
I went to see the Sakura in Inokashira park and had a hanami in .Ueno park. I made another Australian friend and showed her around and also went to a snake cafe. I went to the Samurai museum and met some other Meiji students working there. A friend invited me to go to the trick art museum in Odaiba, that was fun. I went to see my friends live show, and also learned I was slowly improving my Japanese when I translated for some people.
So that's what's happened, I'm living a pretty boring life no?
The bus we rode on, isn't it cute. |
I have decided to become an evil villain, but instead of a cat I shall have this GINORMOUS bunny rabbit! |
